A monumental, highly detailed 1:72 scale diecast masterpiece celebrating one of the most prolific heavy bombers of World War II and its legendary connection to Hollywood royalty. This premium replica within Corgi's Aviation Archive Collector Series (AA34018) meticulously represents the Consolidated B-24H Liberator, serial #42-52154, affectionately named "Male Call".
Often unfairly overshadowed by both the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and the later B-29 Superfortress, the distinctive Consolidated B-24 Liberator was actually the third of America’s massive heavy bombers. It holds the stellar distinction of being the most heavily produced four-engined military aircraft in aviation history, with over 18,500 rolling off assembly lines. Serving as the absolute backbone of the Allied daylight bombing offensive against Germany, the B-24 featured an efficient shoulder-mounted wing, a deep fuselage, and its iconic H-shaped twin tail unit. Its remarkable long-range capabilities were also instrumental in closing the dangerous 'Atlantic gap' against German U-boat wolfpacks.
This specific aircraft, "Male Call", was an exceptionally hard-working machine operating with the USAAF 453rd Bombardment Group. Arriving at RAF Old Buckenham airfield in Norfolk on January 21st, 1944, the rugged bomber went on to complete an astonishing 95 successful bombing missions. Surviving the brutal air war, it is historical consensus that "Male Call" was the sole survivor of the original 61 B-24s assigned to the group.
